I'm open to any set up, but would prefer a tiller? Surely someone needs to upgrade into one of ECC's Schweet new skiffs. Thank you in advance for any and all assistance in my search.

This is from another board. Thought I would share it here.

Drove down to the Keys last week. A fellow Alaskan had given me the heads up he would be in Islamorada chasing poons for the first time and invited me to join him in the boat. I agreed this was necessary. However since the GF had never been to the Keys, I "decided" that I would only join him for the last 3d of his 5d trip.

So I headed from Naples to MIA to pick him up Sunday morning and dropped him and my ride off in Islamorada at the lovely Hampton Inn and my lady friend soon arrived and picked me up in her sweet new convertible for the drive to Key West.

We had a fun 2 days drinking, throwing food at tarpon in the marina and just generally being tourists.

One of the best tap handles ever (at one of the best noodle houses ever)

What happens when you ask a drunk to take your pic

Tuesday evening we drove back to Islamorada where I was dropped off so I could get to the fishing. My buddy had been jumping fish left and right and had managed to land his first tarpon and leader another.

So of course that MUST mean it was on and that I would due soon landing dozens of tarpon!

Yeah right.

Had a few eats the first day with none landed and only one really jumped. Spent some time in backcountry as well as along the beach. Had some eats by the bridge but with all the yahoos running down the fish, they were very nervous and would not commit. Well that and I suck at getting hooked up obviously. At least I caught this monster.

Day 2 we chased tarpon until I said hey...aren;t there redfish around here too?
Guess what? There were!

Day 3 we trailered to Flamingo and went looking for poon again. THey were really unhappy fish and only had one aggressive eat right at the bow which I somehow managed to completely fuck up. Big time. Horribly.

So we went looking for some more reds as the day moved on. This led to some awesome sight fishing in gin clear water and some nice reds.

Was trying to get some cool macro shots and such, but I suck.

Want to really thank Camp Walker for being an awesome guide. He went above and beyond. Poled our asses around for hours and hours. Fished us 12+ hour days and would have kept going if the fish had cooperated. I recommend him highly.

Hope to get back again soon.

I have the Minn Kota rta-19 quick release block installed on the deck of my caimen. I just got the trolling motor earlier this week and I was trying to attach it to the removable block that slides over the smaller block but I am having a hard time doing this.

I think that the bolts that came in the box with the trolling motor are too long for the release block application and the washers are also too big. Was there supposed to be hardware included when I purchased the quick release block? I only remember getting the 2 seperate blocks.

If anyone here has installed this before and can lead me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

not sure if most of yall know but all you need to do is get close. very very seldom can you take a prop out of the box, bolted on, and you be 100% happy with the performance. just get it close. if it handles awesome but the rpm's are a lil high or low it can be tweaked. if the rpms are great and the bow needs to fly a lil higher or the stern needs more lift it can be tweaked. if everything is great but the hole shot needs help then the port holes can be added or adjusted. before you call any prop guy you'll need to know exactly what the boat is doing as far as handling and what you expect. also, you'll need to know what the rpm at wot is with the load you expect to be at most of the time. a good prop guy will be able to tell you what you expect is possible knowing the above info.

i use rich junker (leading edge). he is freakin awesome and a master at what he does. just do not email him.

Hey guys... need a little advice so I can get my final info to Kevin so he can start building!
Here are the details of the build at the moment:

Vantage
custom two tone awlgrip
jack plate atlas micro jacker
24 volt MK ipilot trolling motor
led cockpit and under water
bow cleat
12 volt plug
pro marine 3bank
front casting platform with custom seat base
(4) console rod holders
(2) platform rod holders
removable poling platform
flush trolling motor mount
small lean post seat
east cape stake out
Lowrance HDS8 Gen2

and for the real question Etec 90 or 115HO? ( I would really like to hear from someone with the 90, and whether or not you wish you had the extra throttle)

As for where it's going to see use, a little bit of everything. It will be seeing good bit of time in Boca, Crystal River, Yankeetown, and the Harris Chain of Lakes (as this will have to be my bass boat too). Normally fishing 2-3 (and I'm a big bloke) but there will be those times when we go for a booze cruise with 4.
Thanks for the opinions in advance.

Hey guys,
I'm absolutely thrilled with my new Fury! Got the skunk out of the boat this weekend while fishing in the lagoon. Ran real skinny, and polled like a dream - even with all the wind.
Here is my issue: My top speed was UNDER 24 Knots (speed over ground, recorded on two Garmin units), and the RPMs never went above 5,300. Getting out of the hole, the engine took a little while to respond to the hammered throttle. Once up on a plane, I trimmed the motor up - almost to the point where I felt cavitation? and there was a nice roster tail... For as light as the boat is, I'm expecting better performance out of the 60-Etec. So, I'm thinking it is a prop issue. I have a 13.5 x 14. What kind of prop and performance are you seeing on your Fury?

The shoals on the beach were unfishable. Fished an area just inside the beach and after balling up saw one large black back fish swim well off the skiff out of range. Then another was coming from right to left and had to make a 90 degree cast. Fish lit up and holy crap looked to be a seven footer. Charged the fly and blew it out of the water along with its head, missed it, stopped dead in the water looking for it, kept stripping, missed it again and then felt the skiff. New color pattern. Even though jus inside the beach by a half mile with the NW wind was still having some water come over the bow at times. Had about 6 other shots at single fish but no other eats. Moved east and had two nice fish come from the 2:00 and swam thru the fly. The fish that ate was well over 150.

It's hard to believe that it is already the month of May but with May brings change to the Lagoon system. The fish are starting to get into their summer time patterns with the warm temps and higher water. Look for the schools of Red Fish to start splitting up into smaller pods or singles. They will be holding on the shallow grass early then moving to deeper water as the day go's on. The Trout bite has been excellent for the last couple of weeks and I expect this to carry through mid summer .Look for the Trout to be holding in a foot to three foot of water mixed in with the large bait pods these fish along with the Red fish can be caught on several different baits from soft plastics to live finger mullet the best bite will be early before the water temperature gets to hot. Now the magic question have the Tarpon moved in yet and the answer is yes but not in full force we should start seeing more pods as the weeks go on. There has been some nice numbers of Jacks and Flounder being caught toward the north near Edgewater and New Smyrna Bch for the Jacks a top water plug or a Auqa Dream Spoon works well and a soft plastic on a jig head for the Flounder good luck and be safe.
