I pride myself on being a skeptic and when it came to the Vantage, I will confess that even after two test rides and watching the manufacturing of the boat I still had my doubts. After two trips in the home water of Abaco I am here to tell you that I BELIEVE!!!
First trip out I ran the Vantage in very shallow water of the creek we use to access the open water and in the past we could only do this at low water with the beavertails because the slot is very narrow and demands a carving at high speed and zero slide or you are in the trees. The first turn I hit with the Vantage gave me a taste of what Dave has been telling me about Ferraris… A boat the size of the Vantage is not supposed to corner better than the small shallow water skiffs that were designed for this purpose BUT without doubt the boat turned sharper and stayed on track better than the small boats!
The next test came in the shallow water… I could not believe that the boat was poling in places that the small skiffs would go and what we will give us is negligible at best.
I ran the boat in soft bottom in less that six inches and had no problem. I was blown away with the ‘out of the hole’ power of the eTech 90. Truly it will pop the boat out of 10 inches of water.
I ran the boat off shore today in a 15mph wind and again, the way it took the sea felt better than the 21’s we have been running. The boat was solid and dry!
We have found the one boat we need at Blackfly to get our guest safely and comfortably to the fish and back again.
I can’t say enough about this boat! You guys at East Cape have done a great job and have set a new standard for serious guide boats.
I will write more as we use this boat but I can’t wait to get the entire fleet here.
